The sign of Scorpio has quite a reputation. Scorpio’s reputation is scary, vindictive, vengeful, and yet a steamy sex bomb too. But Scorpio is actually a gentle sign and has the attitude of “live and let live.” Neeshee and I talk about why Scorpio is a gentle sign and the only time you need to afraid of the famous Scorpio sting.
The Gift of Scorpio
If you have planets in the sign of Scorpio, especially if you have Mars in Scorpio, the gift you give to the world is your ability to be patient and wait for the best time to take action in solving a problem, overcoming a great obstacle or killing an evil. Including the thinking that causes us unnecessary pain, anger, and anguish.
The Moon & Mars in Scorpio
Byron Katie has her Atmakaraka planet the Moon in the sign of Scorpio WITH Mars in Scorpio. For much of her life, she was deeply depressed and utterly miserable because she didn’t question the negative thoughts she had.
One day she realized that she could question her thoughts and that was the beginning of her awakening. Since then she has become a world-famous teacher of her simple method she calls “The Work.”
“The Work” is a great example of the sign of Scorpio in action. You can watch her on her YouTube channel where she helps people with their thoughts. Her method can free one from years of suffering on every subject under the Sun. Watch as she helps a woman overcome her fear of Donald Trump! (LINK POSTED BELOW in the Related section)
VIDEOS Part 1 & 2 (BELOW) on the sign of SCORPIO
Neeshee Pandit and I continue our evergreen series on the Signs in the VIDEOS below. In this two-part series, we discuss the sign of SCORPIO in depth. We discussed the points in this post and some of the other characteristics of SCORPIO such as the Guna and the Dosha not covered here. Understanding SCORPIO helps you have a more balanced view and a deep appreciation of the SCORPIO people in your life.
The sign of Scorpio in Vedic Astrology is concerned with the Guna & Dosha of a sign, something you likely won’t hear about in western astrology.
The Symbol of SCORPIO
The symbol for Scorpio is the universally feared insect the scorpion. Here is the description of Virgo from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra:
“Small limbed, many footed, a Brahmin, in a hole, abiding in the north, rich in vigor during the day, orange, exposed to water and land, bristles, abounding and very sharp pointed is the Scorpion ruled by Mars.”
Scorpio Rules the Covered Parts
Scorpio represents the external sexual organs. These are the vulnerable organs that are not protected or strengthened by bone, as are all the remaining organs, at least to some degree. Similarly, Scorpio represents vulnerabilities and the attempt to protect that which is vulnerable. All of the water signs are about emotional security – Scorpio represents emotional security and emotional stability because it is a fixed water sign.
MARS Rules SCORPIO
There is no planet that is exalted in the sign of Scorpio, but Mars is in his own sign here. Mars is a great friend to Jupiter and the Sun, so Jupiter and the Sun are good in Scorpio. The Moon is weak in the sign of Scorpio, but only when in the first three degrees. Scorpio is the female expression of the planet Mars.

SCORPIO is a Gentle Female Sign
Feminine signs are considered to be gentle because they are concerned more with enjoying life and ‘being’ rather than in getting things done. They are receptive and responsive, and their actions depend on how they feel. The better the feminine signs feel, the better they do. Scorpio feels best and does best when it feels emotionally secure.
Difficult planetary combinations in Scorpio indicate pain and misery that is held within and hurts itself rather than hurting others – really! Gentle Scorpio’s attitude is “live and let live as I mentioned above, but the famous sting of Scorpio will be felt if it is stepped on, or if you threaten it’s children. The insect scorpion doesn’t go out looking for something to sting, it’s stinger is only used in self-defense.
My Scorpio Atmakaraka Husband
My current husband has his Atmakaraka planet in the sign of Scorpio and he can keep a secret like no one else I know. Scorpio, the fixed water sign, truly embodies the saying “still waters run deep.” My husband can understand the meaning in my nightly dreams, sometimes even better I do myself.
I won’t watch a spy movie without him because he can follow the byzantine plots and anticipate the next move of the bad guys. I’m often lost and can hardly keep track of who is doing what to whom and why – not to mention how horrified I am when the bad guy kills the hero’s dog.
Being a straight-forward Aries Sun person, all the skullduggery and shenanigans of politics and spies is hard for me to understand. I would make a terrible spy, but my Scorpio atmakaraka husband would probably be great at it.
SCORPIO is of the Water Element
The water element is feeling centered, and yielding is their strength. Feelings are the way the water signs perceive truth, meaning through a particular sense or impression. Scorpio feels what is hidden, which is always the Divine and so Scorpio has the ability to feel truth. But it can only do so to the degree that it is healthy, else that which is hidden is only fear and vulnerability.
In horary astrology, if one is asking if the water element indicates that the object is somewhere “comfortable.” This could be nestled in with a pile of clothes, blankets, pillows, etc., or it is near water or near something representing water.
The Caste of SCORPIO is Brahmin
Caste is temperament (not social hierarchy), and Brihat Parashara considers Scorpio to be of the Brahmin caste. Scorpio is a sign that aspires towards higher knowledge in order to remove itself from the darkness of mental and emotional suffering. This is why you often see great psychologists and therapists with a personal planet in the sign of Scorpio.
The 4th, 8th, and 12th houses are the Moksha (liberation) houses, which correlate to the goal of Brahmins and to the Water Rasis. Scorpio is the natural ruler of the 8th house.
SCORPIO is Day Strong and Front Rising
Day strong signs are vigorous during the day and get energized by bringing things into concrete realization. Front-rising signs rise over the eastern horizon with their fronts first. Signs that are front-rising have an easy time bringing their tasks to practical manifestation because they are full of “know-how,” and Scorpio is a day strong sign.
SCORPIO has the TENACITY with which to succeed. The day strong and front rising characteristics are unique to the sign of SCORPIO in Vedic Astrology.
SCORPIO is Many-Footed
The many-footed signs are Cancer and Scorpio. The many-footed signs strength lies in their tenacity.
The many footed signs are particularly interested in the 7th house matters of the public, partnerships. Scorpio is least interested in the 1st house matter of finding one’s own path. Scorpio needs the public and partnerships in order to discover themselves.
The Color of SCORPIO is Brownish
The ‘color’ of Scorpio is a brownish color, like the color of whiskey or cognac. We talk about this in the videos below.
