“Small limbed, many footed, a Brahmin, in a hole, abiding in the north, rich in vigor during the day, orange, exposed to water and land, bristles, abounding and very sharp pointed is the Scorpion ruled by Mars.”
Scorpio Rules the Covered Parts
Scorpio represents the external sexual organs. These vulnerable organs are not protected or strengthened by bone, as are all the remaining organs, at least to some degree. Similarly, Scorpio represents vulnerabilities and the attempt to protect that which is vulnerable.
All the water signs are about emotional security – Scorpio represents emotional security and stability because it is a fixed water sign.
MARS Rules SCORPIO & Why It’s Still a Gentle Sign
No planets are exalted in the sign of Scorpio, but Mars is in his sign here. Mars is a great friend to Jupiter and the Sun, so Jupiter and the Sun are good in Scorpio. The Moon is weak in the sign of Scorpio, but only when in the first three degrees. Scorpio is the female expression of the planet Mars.

Why SCORPIO is a Gentle Female Sign
Feminine signs are gentle because they are more concerned with enjoying life and ‘being’ rather than getting things done. They are receptive and responsive, and their actions depend on how they feel. The better the feminine signs feel, the better they do.
Scorpio feels best and does best when it feels emotionally secure.
Difficult planetary combinations in Scorpio indicate pain and misery that is held within and hurts itself rather than hurting others. Gentle Scorpio’s attitude is “live and let live as I mentioned above, but you will feel the famous sting of Scorpio if you step on Scorpio or if you threaten its children.
The insect scorpion doesn’t go out looking for something to sting; its stinger is only used in self-defense.
My Scorpio Atmakaraka Husband
My current husband has his Atmakaraka planet in the sign of Scorpio, and he can keep a secret better than anyone I know. The fixed water sign, Scorpio, embodies the saying “still waters run deep.” My husband can understand the meaning of my nightly dreams, sometimes even better than I do myself.
I won’t watch a spy movie without him because he can follow the Byzantine plots and anticipate the next move of the bad guys. I’m often lost and can hardly keep track of who is doing what to whom and why – not to mention how horrified I am when the bad guy kills the hero’s dog.
Being a straightforward Aries Sun person, all the skullduggery and shenanigans of politics and spies are hard for me to understand. I would make a terrible spy, but my Scorpio atmakaraka husband would probably be great at it.
SCORPIO is of the Water Element
The water element is feeling centered, and yielding is their strength. Emotions are the way the water signs perceive truth, meaning through a particular sense or impression. Scorpio feels what is hidden, which is always the Divine; therefore, Scorpio can feel the truth.
But it can only do so to the degree that it is healthy, else that which is hidden is only fear and vulnerability.
In horary astrology, if one asks about a lost object, the water element indicates it is somewhere “comfortable.” Meaning it could be nestled in with a pile of clothes, blankets, pillows, etc., or it is near water or something representing water.
If the horary question is about whether the querent will hear from someone, such as a friend or a relative, and the planet representing the person they want to hear from occupies a water sign, then that person is “mute.” Meaning they won’t hear from that person.
The Caste of SCORPIO is Brahmin
Caste is temperament (not social hierarchy), and Brihat Parashara considers Scorpio to be of the Brahmin caste. Scorpio is a sign that aspires towards higher knowledge to remove itself from the darkness of mental and emotional suffering. You often see great psychologists and therapists with a personal planet in the sign of Scorpio.
The 4th, 8th, and 12th houses are the Moksha (liberation) houses, which correlate to the goal of Brahmins and the Water signs. Scorpio is the natural ruler of the 8th house.
SCORPIO is Day-Strong and Front-Rising
Day-strong signs are vigorous during the day and energize by bringing things to concrete realization. Front-rising signs rise over the eastern horizon with their fronts first. Signs that are front-rising have an easy time bringing their tasks to practical manifestation. Scorpio is a day-strong sign and is full of “know-how.”
SCORPIO has the TENACITY with which to succeed. The day-strong and front-rising characteristics are unique to the sign of SCORPIO in Vedic Astrology.
The Gentle Sign of SCORPIO is Many-Footed
The many-footed signs are Cancer and Scorpio. The many-footed signs’ strength lies in their tenacity.
The many-footed signs are particularly interested in the 7th house matters of the public, partnerships. Scorpio is least interested in the 1st house matter of finding one’s path. Therefore, Scorpio needs people and partnerships to discover themselves.
The Color of SCORPIO is Brownish
