What does it mean that Sagittarius’s sign is two-footed and four-footed? It creates an odd mental image, right? What does this have to do with fiery spiritual passion?

The Signs and Footedness

In Vedic astrology, Sagittarius is represented by a man on a horse, not a Centaur (half man and half horse) like in Western astrology. I hope that odd mental image makes sense now!

Signs are two-footed, four-footed, many-footed, or footless and moving in water. Sagittarius is both four-footed because of the horse and two-footed because of the man riding the horse.

Sagittarius is a Human & Animal Sign

Gemini, Virgo, and Aquarius are two-footed human signs that are skilled and adaptable but not very strong (compared to many animals).
Two-footed humans are primarily interested in thinking, purpose, and following one’s true path.

Four-footed signs are strong, can bear great burdens, and carry out challenging tasks. These signs are interested in the world of work, purpose, and command.

Sagittarius is a blend of both. A man riding a horse while shooting an upward arrow symbolizes shooting toward noble ideals (where fiery spiritual passion can come in). Sagittarius is primarily concerned with thinking, following one’s dharma, and leading, protecting, and the world of work.

Two Famous People with Jupiter in Sagittarius

Jupiter’s feminine expression is watery Pisces, and his masculine expression is fiery Sagittarius. Also known as ‘the soldier,’ the caste of Sagittarius is Kshatriya (warrior). Fire signs tend to be passionate, and Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, the planet of spirituality, can be especially so.

billy graham sagittarius & fiery spiritual passionThe famous preacher Billy Graham had his ascendant ruler Mars, his Moon (also his Atmakaraka)* with Rahu, in Sagittarius, occupying the 9th house of higher knowledge. Billy was known for his intense passion (fire) from the
pulpit, where he inspired people to become Christians.

Jupiter rules higher knowledge, spirituality, philosophy, and wisdom. The sign of Sagittarius is a fiery warrior sign. I suspect that the phrase ‘holy war’ was created by a Sagittarius.

Interestingly, the creator (or channeler) of Human Design, Ra Uru Hu (Robert A. Krakower), has his Atmakaraka and Svamsa** in the sign of Sagittarius. If you ever have a chance to hear him speak, he sounds just like an old-time preacher.
