What is Vedic Jaimini Astrology?

Although in modern times, Vedic culture is most closely followed in India, historical writings in the Vedic scriptures record an intellectually and spiritually advanced culture going back in human society to over 5,000 years ago and the Vedas are the oldest scriptures known to exist.

Vedic knowledge encompasses both material and spiritual knowledge. Astrology, also known as “Jyotish,” The Science of Light, is part of the Vedic literature and is the original form of astrology, existing long ago in what is now known as the Indian subcontinent.

There are two great astrological texts that come from these ancient scriptures, one is the Birhat Parashara Hora Shastra and the Upadesa Sutras of Jaimini. These two texts are unique amongst all other astrological texts in that they contain complete systems of scientific astrology. No other Jyotish texts available to us can boast of this — at best some texts have a few incomplete pages on systematic techniques.

Jaimini techniques revolve around what you truly are, what you truly will become, both spiritually and materially, who you will have in your life and the mark that your life will leave upon mankind. All of these issues are addressed much more accurately by Jaimini than by any other ancient astrologer.

These are the areas addressed:

Living in an era where career possibilities are so plentiful as to be overwhelming, having some guidance as to what career you are most suited for and would be the most successful is a real service. Being able to focus on one thing at a time is more likely to result in career success than never really being sure what you should be doing and so never fully committing to anything.

The more capable you are the more possibility for success and the harder you are to replace in an organization or in your field.

Are you more susceptible to having affairs than most people? Is your spouse? Jaimini techniques clearly show if you need to be more careful than other people or if marriage and fidelity is just not for you.

Your basic purpose or what aspects of life you will be dealing with the majority of your life, and whether or not you are supported in your dharma or if you are someone who’s dharma is outside of society’s approval (it’s still important that you do your Dharma anyway).

Description of the Spouse

Why you are attracted to the people you are attracted to and what your spouse will be like, if they will have health problems, etc.

Whether you are likely to marry, and marry more than once, or if you will be a renunciate and focus on your own spiritual development instead. Marriage is not an automatic path for everyone!

Courage and Will

Can you persist in spite of obstacles, delays and opposition, or do you accept anything that happens without a fight? There are merits and problems with each way of being, but knowing which one you are can help you to decide if self-employment is an option.

Liberation and Spiritual Development

Where you are in the cycles of birth and death. The chart also shows the best way to get to final liberation, the best spiritual practice for the fastest growth, the spiritual practice for help with mundane life, and the Deity (spiritual principle or aspect of the Divine) for your family life.

This has to do with reputation and whether or not you are respected or widely known, either by the entire world or in just your own corner of the world.

Gain and Loss of Wealth

Whether or not you continually gain in wealth, and from what sources, or if you have a lot of expenses and who or what is costing you.

Success and Accomplishment

Are you here this time around to accomplish something in the world or are you here to just “be?” Both are equally valuable, but it helps to know which one it is so you don’t waste time or energy beating yourself up for not being more like one or the other.

Kemadruma Yoga (when you are getting in your own way)

If you feel that you have been working your butt off and still don’t have the results you would reasonably expect to get for it, it could be that you have this yoga. Knowing that you are trying to bring something into being that your environment doesn’t support is a major revelation and step forward in self-knowledge and understanding. Knowing what is wrong gives you the clues you need to change your course.
