Example: Birth Chart of Allison DuBois, the Star of the TV Show “Medium”
The short version of how to know if you have psychic gifts by looking at your birth chart, is check to see if the ruling planet of the 9th house and/or the 8th house, glance at (aspect) your Ascendant house, if the ruling planet of the Ascendant, aspects the 8th or 9th house, or if the “Atmakaraka” (the planet at the highest degree, also called the “soul” or career planet), is in the 8th or 9th house. It’s not always that straight-forward, but usually it is. I’m using Jaimini “aspects” here, which I’ll explain below.
Here is a list of the signs (in small type found in the lower left-hand corner of the houses) and what planets (shown in much larger type inside the houses) rule them:
Leo (Le) = Sun (Su)
Cancer (Cn) = Moon (Mo)
Aries/Scorpio (Ar/Sc) = Mars (Ma)
Taurus/Libra (Ta/Li) = Venus (Ve)
Gemini/Virgo (Ge/Vi) = Mercury (Me)
Sagittarius/Pisces (Sg/Pi) = Jupiter (Ju)
Capricorn/Aquarius (Cp/Aq) = Saturn (Sa)
Jaimini aspects work like this:
Planets in the moveable signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, “glance” (aspect, meaning, influence) at the fixed signs of Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus, except when they are in the house right next to them, thus:
Aries aspects Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius
Cancer aspects Scorpio, Aquarius, and Taurus
Libra aspects Aquarius, Taurus, and Leo
Capricorn aspects Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio
The planets in the dual signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, are easy because they all aspect each other, and there are no exceptions because the houses ruled by the dual signs are never next to each other.
The first house, also known as the Ascendant or Lagna, is shown by the double diagonal line in the larger chart above. The sign on the Ascendant is Libra. Libra is ruled by the planet VENUS (Ve). Venus is then considered to be the Ascendant ruler. The Ascendant represents the basic SELF, and a person’s destiny or path in life, is determined from this point.
The “houses” are numbered from one to twelve in blue. The houses are read in a clockwise direction from the Ascendant.
Venus is in the sign of Pisces (Pi), where it is EXALTED (very strong), in the 6th house of litigation (she worked as an intern for the District Attorney) and Venus ASPECTS the 9th house of “higher” knowledge and of dreams (the kind you have at night when you’re sleeping), so the Ascendant is connected to the 9th house in this way. Also, her “soul planet” (Atmakaraka) is SATURN, which is in the sign of Taurus (also ruled by the planet Venus), and is placed IN the 8th house of death and the occult (hidden knowledge), which then ASPECTS the first house (ascendant)! One of the main ways Allison received her knowledge of a murder that happened or was about to happen, was through her dreams.
This alone is enough to show that she is indeed a psychic, but she has a “YOGA” (a specific arrangement of planets in relationship to each other and the houses), that emphasizes her psychic gifts.
To qualify for this yoga, the birth chart has to have Jupiter (Ju) in a “benefic” sign (to be a benefic sign, it can be in any sign EXCEPT Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, or Scorpio ruled by the “cruel” planets Saturn and Mars), and aspected by Venus (Ve), using the Jaimini aspect rules above, that is also in a benefic sign. Finally, this yoga requires that Jupiter be in a benefic sign in the NAVAMSA chart (very important in Vedic astrology, it’s like a second birth chart) too, which is the smaller chart below her birth chart, with the number 9 outlined in red.
The meaning of this yoga is “One becomes cognizant of the past, present, and future.”
In her case, she not only meets these requirements for this yoga, but Jupiter is very strong in his OWN sign of Sagittarius in BOTH the birth chart (1) and the Navamsa chart (9), and it’s being aspected by an EXALTED Venus! When planets are strong by being in one of their “own” signs, or by being “exalted” (where they can really express their natures), then they produce much stronger effects in the person’s life.
Aside from this, the 9th house is in the sign of Gemini, ruled by the planet MERCURY (Me). Mercury in Allison’s chart is in the 4th house (the house of the emotions, or inner life), ASPECTING the 8th house of death and the occult.
Check your own chart to see if you have this yoga, or if you have the 8th, 9th, and Ascendant in some kind of relationship, verifying that you too are psychic, or at the very least, “very intuitive”.
