Bringing in the New Year of 2015 is the auspicious waxing Moon in a Venus sign, Taurus, the sign of the Moon’s exaltation, in the nakshatra of Krittika (one of the 27 mansions of the Moon).
Taurus is an earth sign that loves to nourish and provide for loved ones. The Moon in this sign is where it is most able to express its Moon qualities of nurturing, expressing feelings, and being adaptable to the changing conditions of our lives.
The Moon is the planet of growth, and when it is bright and waxing (growing fuller), it brings growth in your external circumstances.
You have a copy of your birth chart now by now, right? (If for some crazy reason you don’t, go HERE to get a PDF download of it for free). The link will open in a separate window and the descriptions of the 12 houses of the birth chart and how to identify the signs of the houses are also on the same page.
Find the house ruled by Taurus (Ta), this is the house that will be growing in your life this month and over this year (read the meanings of that house just below the chart calculator on the same page). The house ruled by the Moon, Cancer (Cn) will be affected too. These two signs and houses are harmonious to each other and both are feminine-energy, or yin, signs.
This indicates that it is magnetic rather than dynamic and this is where you will attract, or magnetize, nurturing experiences and various types of nourishment this month and this year.
Taurus is a bull (a cow) that loves to provide good food, soft fabrics, comfort, and healing because it’s Venus-ruled, Venus being the nurse of the zodiac.
The Nakshatra of Krittika
The nakshatra of Krittika resides in the constellations of the Ram and the Bull and the astronomical location is in the constellation of the Pleiades. The six brightest stars of the Pleiades makes up this nakshatra and are considered to the be the wives of the Great Seers.
Krittika represents the determined and tenacious will to achieve greatness, whether in the physical world or the spiritual world.
The ruling Hindu deity is Agni, the god of fire and transformation. Krittika symbols are a flame, a razor, an axe or other edged weapons, representing the power to burn or cut away negativity to get to the deepest truths. Krittika literally means “the cutters” and is called “the star of fire.”
Purification is the main activity of this lunar mansion, and Agni, the god of fire, is also the fire that cooks our food, so nourishment is experienced here too (that Taurus influence again).
This lunar mansion is great for cooking a special meal, or learning how to be a better cook in general. Maybe this year you will work your way through a great cook book or take some cooking classes. Your friends and family won’t mind a bit!
Krittika also reflects the desire for radical changes in personal and social life, and being Venus influenced, you may want to express these aspirations creatively through the arts, in the healing fields, or just on a daily basis when you cook a meal as an artistic expression of your love.
This is a great star for resolving to cut away the negative beliefs and habitual thoughts that hold you back from where you really want to go. The houses in your birth chart ruled by Taurus and Cancer are where you can focus this resolve and witness great growth this year.
This is a nakshatra of desire, so having discipline over one’s desire-nature and finding pleasurable activities that are truly healing and revitalizing (Venus) is one of the main lessons of Krittika.
Well, that’s kind of perfect for starting out the year, isn’t it?

Thank you so much for helping me to sort out my relationship with my boyfriend. After my divorce from a man I felt was the love of my life, I was afraid to move on with my current boyfriend and make that “commitment” to him–I care for him, but was so afraid that I’d makeanother mistake as I’ve done in the past with men.But after discussing our compatibility strengths and compatibility points I was able to move on with him that very same day and now we are discussing our future. He’s as happy as am I. I have grown to love Vedic Astrology because it allows us to look at our relationships realistically (not just on the soul mate and so-called chemistry level), but offers us “fixes” for problems we may have and helps us to understand our partners on a deeper level.
I could write a book, but let me end by saying thank you for your guidance and recommendations. I cannot even begin to tell you how much of an impact our conversation has had on my life and my relationship.–Natalie Thomas, Pittsburgh, PA
